Businesses that I tried and failed,...

2. Blogging. Yeah, I thought blogging was a get rich quick scheme, so I was excited and even did my poor PNL estimates over 2000 web visitors.

This was in 2021, and I was just getting started with my exploration of the digital landscape.

The internet was such an interesting topic to me, and the idea that I could make money, from my phone without having to leave my comfort appealed to me even 5 years ago.

So I quickly built myself a WIX website, and it was beautiful by my standards, and standards of those days because people didn't use WIX to build their websites.

I paid around $10 for a domain name and $4 for a monthly WIX subscription to keep my website online, and guess my domain name, it was https://chibondoonlinesolutions.com

Honestly speaking, even in building that platform, I didn't have an idea of what I was building,

In my mind, it was a blog, where I could write about things and make money from Google adsense, and yet I didn't even know one person who was doing this...

I had seen people talk about it from YouTube.

That was all.

It failed from the beginning, getting a meager 100 views, mostly from my friends and 0 penny.

In a month time, I gave up on the idea completely, and instead, decided, I could have made better value if I was putting that effort in building a YouTube channel, for two reasons;

- YouTube is free, no hosting costs etc. I could put out the same amount of work, and content but on YouTube, where the YouTube content distribution engine, ie, the algorithm could potentially get me the attention that I needed, something that I would have struggled if I continued to build that blog without an existing fan base.

- I stood a better chance at monetizing with YouTube than my independent blog because of the various YouTube monetization pathways, like sponsorships, and even ad revenue.

Blogging in 2021 was working for people with big traffic and it still works, but for a newbie like me, it was an uphill battle, that I was destined to lose.

So, this was the second business I tried, and ditched.

WHAT I COULD DO DIFFERENTLY IF I WAS TO DO IT AGAIN

I am actually doing it, again now, at apmchibondo.blog and one of the things that I am doing with this new venture is, just creating content and not expecting to blow up next month.

The reason I am blogging on my own site today, is not to make money from it, but to build online authority for my other business ventures.

I can write about my other crazy projects like Crazy Chess Battles, The Chibondo Academy, BrandFletch Media just to mention a few, because it's a big list.

There is potential to make money from the blog, but one thing that is not going to change, it honestly, needs a good amount of web traffic.

If you want to read about my third failed attempt on business, follow me.

Please Note the image I have used is appearing as social image for the Chibondo online solutions link, but Geniuspulse will be covered in my next story...

Or I can mention that it was also just another attempt at blogging, right after Chibondo online solutions

This time around, I thought coming with a fancy name would attract readers🤣🤲

But I guess I was wrong.

I invested $44 on hostinger web hosting, and got this domain (geniuspulse.com) as a free domain for one year.

Geniuspulse was in 2022, and just like Chibondo online solutions before it, I got nothing in return.

Anyway, I will see you in my next update
